Word Ladders

Word Ladders is a word game through which you can improve your vocabulary and challenge your friends. The game gives you a word and based on that you can build your ladder by adding words above and below the given word. You must add above the prompt words that are more generic (for instance, given CAT you may add FELINE; MAMMAL and ANIMAL) and words that are more specific below (namely, types of cats, like: PERSIAN, SIAMESE etc). Build the longest ladder, delve in your mental vocabulary, compare your linguistic knowledge to your peers and challenge your friends! There are 3 versions of the game: an individual game through which you can track your personal progress; a one-to-one game in which you can challenge a friend or a random player to build the longest ladder; and a group game that you can play with your friends, challenging them all together! The Word Ladders game is an educational game that has been implemented by a group of researchers within the University of Bologna, Italy. The implementation is funded by a European grant (ERC-2021-STG-101039777). The game has the goal of collecting linguistic data on word associations, to better understand the structure of our mental lexicon.
