CLIMB PedibusSmart

CLIMB Piedibus Smart is a mobile app created to support Piedibus companions.
It allows you to fill in an automatic roll call thanks to proximity devices in the possession of the participating children, it allows you to register the volunteers present every day, it provides indications of the stops and possibly the contact details of the volunteers and parents.
The app was born in 2016 as part of the CLIMB research project of the Bruno Kessler Foundation's Smart Community Lab, initially created in collaboration with the "A PiediSafe" project of the Youth Policies Office of the Municipality of Trento. It was then extended to other Italian and non-Italian cities.

To use Pedibus Smart it is not enough to download the app, there are a few steps to take first. A Municipality, a school or a parents' association establishes a collaboration agreement with FBK, authorizing FBK to customize the Pedibus Smart components (app, proximity devices and dashboard) for the specific Pedibus of that school or city.
The Pedibus Smart App is then activated and together with the Pedibus contact person, a quick instruction form is organized for the volunteers/carers on the use of the app and the distribution of the devices.

Every day, using a carer's smartphone, the attendance register is automatically created, confirmed by drivers and shared securely with our backend servers. When agreed, a personalized web page provides monitoring and statistics on the progress of the Pedibus.


The PedibusSmart can be complemented by the KidsGoGreen game, which further encourages sustainable, social and fun mobility for all school children.
