The story tells the protagonist that Wood's Sakura unexpectedly opened the book for the seal card. The card is a Kolo card created by the magician Cullo Rido. Each card has its own abilities, self-awareness and freedom of action. In order to prevent the action of the card from causing disaster to the world, Sakura, under the entrustment of the guardian "Kerobelos", recovered the scattered cards into the seal book.
Comics were popular soon after they were published, and later, different media released adaptations, such as MADHOUSE's TV animation in April 1998, two movie animations released in 1999 and 2000, and three OVAs; Other media works such as video games, art books, picture books and film publications produced by the company.
