Review summary

Sync for Lemmy is widely praised for its clean, customizable UI, smooth performance, and familiar feel for Reddit users. The developer is responsive and frequently releases updates. However, some users note bugs like occasional crashes, auto-refresh issues that reset hidden posts, and basic features behind paywalls. There are also some usability quirks, such as account management difficulties and posting errors on certain instances. Overall, it is regarded as the best Lemmy client available, with appreciated payment options and consistent improvements.
Pros
  • Familiar and polished user interface that makes transitioning from Reddit easier.
  • Customizable and feature-rich with smooth performance and swipe controls.
  • Responsive developer who quickly addresses bugs and updates the app regularly.
  • Ad-free and subscription/lifetime purchase options that users appreciate supporting.
  • Clean, well-designed UI that many consider the best among Lemmy apps.
Cons
  • Some bugs including occasional crashes and desync issues between instances.
  • Basic features like notifications are behind a paywall, which users find annoying.
  • Auto-refresh issues that undo hidden posts and force restarts of scroll sessions.
  • Limited customization options and some UX quirks compared to other apps.
  • Errors when submitting posts to some Lemmy instances and unclear instance management.

As someone who usually only reviews apps when they suck, I needed to make an exception for Sync because it does, and I can't stress this enough, everything right. I have yet to find a single issue with the app (aside from the occasional bug, though they tend to get fixed reasonably quickly so I have no issue with that) and I've been using the app since back when it was a reddit client and it's always been great.

Sync does everything I expect it to. Configurable, quick and a generally well-considered UI (with a couple of minor exceptions). Though there is a random crash here and there, it's still my go-to time waster. Minus one star for the rendering issues it seems to have. Posts are bare-bones compared to others I have seen.

Sync was 100% the best way to browse Reddit on my phone, so when I learned that Sync was being made for Lemmy, I knew that I'd use it for that, too. Sync is not a FOSS app, but if FOSS isn't the most important thing to you, then Sync is the best you can get for a Lemmy app, hands down. It's user-friendly, has a nice, clean appearance and runs incredibly smoothly. The dev is also super responsive to any issues that arise, which is great. Definitely give Sync a try, you won't regret it!

I like most of the UI about this app, but I run into little annoyances like how basic features like notifications are gated behind a paywall. I've also run into a weird bug where my accounts' usernames don't show up when swapping account so I have to just know which slot is which account. Overall I'd say it's mostly good. Edit: Within a week of posting this review, every issue I had has been fixed with a new patch. Updated to 5 stars.

When Reddit went to the trash, I wanted to find a clean looking UI that had a similar experience. Sync for me has been that and so much more. I really enjoy how I don't have to create an account but can still browse. Honestly I feel like sync for Lemmy has been the only thing keeping me off Reddit. Great work devs :)

I was a Sync for Reddit user for years. During the great purge I setup a Lemmy server and used the web interface until Sync for Lemmy was released. Quite pleased with the interface. No complaints with the app. Lemmy tends to have desync issues with instances not communicating. I believe this app is getting after that by pulling comments from the Lemmy instance that the OP is on. Total speculation. The app is great.

Been a longtime user since sync for reddit, and I love how customizable it is. Dev listens to feedback and cares about the user experience. There is a free version, monthly subscription, and a one time purchase for lifetime access to features option depending on what you want. Probably the few apps I am not only willing to pay a subscription for, but want to pay for. 10/10 would download again

I used sync for reddit as my daily driver for years and supported the app because LJ makes it such a pleasant interface to use. Reddit's format sucked and I couldn't get any other clients to look how I wanted, except for sync. Moving to Lemmy was difficult for me to navigate their UI so when Sync for Lemmy came out I found my new home. Cheers LJ, I love what you do

Solid app, I've tried a lot of Lemmy apps and this is by far the best, it's not perfect but it's about as close as I can find. Happy to pay a bit for Solid customizability ui and swipe controls. There are some really solid FOSS alternatives on github but they don't feel as clean to me. The ui is solid and complex. I'd love a bit more customization. My big note is enjoy the swipe controls but would love to be able to swipe in both directions and chose what happens with each degree of swipage.

Very nice to use Lemmy client. More polished than any other app you'll use. There are large gaps if communication with the dev, but he always reasures with fantastic updates. I cannot speak for the free version as an ad-free user however. 6 Month Edit: There are many great apps for the Lemmyverse now, offering a great experience. Sync is amazing, beautiful, and still my prefered. The AI article summary feature is so nice.
