Lockstep: Unlock Counter Android

Lockstep: Unlock Counter

Count your phone unlocks and set daily goals. Private, offline, free.

Overview

Features & Capabilities

Lockstep shows how often you unlock your phone each day, so you can see your habits and decide for
yourself whether to change them.

WHAT IT MEASURES
• Unlocks: how many times you unlocked the phone today.
• Peeks: times the screen turned on and went off again without an unlock, such as checking the
time or a notification lighting up the screen.
• Average session: the average time from an unlock until the screen turns off or the phone locks
again.
• First unlock of the day, a trend against the previous 7 days, and a streak of days within your
goal.
• A 14-day history. Tap a day to see its details. Export it as a CSV file whenever you choose.
• "What the numbers mean" explains every figure inside the app.

GOALS AND GENTLE NOTIFICATIONS
• Set one daily goal for weekdays and another for the weekend.
• Optional notifications: when you reach 80% of your goal, once a day when you go over it, and a
daily summary of yesterday at 9:00.
• You can manage each notification type in Android settings.

HOME-SCREEN WIDGET
• See today's unlocks and your goal progress without opening the app.

• Light, dark or automatic, following your system theme. Available in English and Spanish.

PRIVACY
• Works fully offline: the app has no internet permission, no account, no ads and no analytics.
• Nothing is collected or shared. Your data stays on your phone.
• Android cloud backup is turned off for this app. If you use Android's direct device-to-device
transfer to set up a new phone, your data may be copied to your own new phone.
• Delete all data in the app at any time, or uninstall to remove everything.

PERMISSIONS EXPLAINED
• Usage access (a system setting you turn on): lets the app read the times the screen turns on or
off, the phone locks or unlocks, and the phone shuts down or starts up. It does not read which
apps you use or anything inside them. The app explains this before opening Settings, and you can
turn it off at any time.
• Notifications (Android 13 and later, optional): needed only to show the alerts described above.

WHAT LOCKSTEP DOES NOT DO
• It does not block or limit apps.
• It does not show screen time or usage for individual apps.
• It is not a medical or health tool and makes no health claims.

Requires Android 9 or later. Free.

If only the widget would update. :( Why bother with a third party app that I have to click on to see the correct number when Samsung Digital Wellness will give me the same information? I installed this for the widget but the unlock counter on the homescreen will only go up if I actually open Lockstep app 2 or more times which is absurd.

Great little app for being aware of the number of times you unlock the phone. You can set a goal and see the recent history for the past few days. All the functionality is great and on point, no nonsense, hard to find these days. No account, all data is local. As a suggestion, I would love to have a small 1x1 widget with just the %circle and the total number of unlocks for the day inside (there is one widget, but 2x1 minimum).
