directree is a modern software directory and launch platform built on one principle: honesty beats fake precision. It's for founders who want real distribution and backlinks, and for buyers who want a directory they can actually trust.

What it's for
Software discovery is hard to trust when you can't tell a verified fact from marketing, and when new or niche products struggle to be seen at all. directree focuses on the trust problem at the data layer: every listing is real, structured, and clearly labelled by how we know each fact, so buyers can judge for themselves and smaller products get a fair, transparent listing.

Paste any product URL and directree enriches it into a full, structured listing: a plain-language summary, who it's best for and who it's not for, integrations, pricing signals, links and socials, screenshots, strengths and weaknesses, tags, and likely competitors. No forms to fill, no waiting.

The honesty model (the core of the product)
Every single field carries a provenance label, always shown, never hidden:
- Verified — a crawled, verifiable fact, stated as fact (integrations, visible pricing, free-trial yes/no, socials, screenshots). Shown in monospace as a deliberate signal.
- AI-inferred — a summary, best-for, strengths, weaknesses, or competitor guess. Always labelled as inference, never disguised as a fact, with hedged criticism.
- Founder-edited — a field a domain-verified owner has claimed and corrected. Highest trust.
directree uses honest qualitative signals rather than invented numeric scores, so nothing on a listing implies a precision we can't back up. This is both an ethical stance and a quality firewall against defamation and AI slop.

Claim, correct, and get a backlink
Creating a listing isn't the same as owning it. Anyone can submit a listing, but only a rep who verifies control of the domain can claim and edit it, at which point their corrections become Founder-edited (the highest trust tier) and the listing earns a do-follow backlink badge. A report/abuse path protects data quality from day one.

Two products in one
directree is both an evergreen directory (tool pages, comparison pages, and alternative pages that compound as search assets) and a launch platform (New and Top community feeds plus launch-day visibility, in the spirit of Product Hunt).

Built to be cited by AI (GEO)
Because every listing is real, structured, and consistently labelled, directree pages are built to be surfaced and cited by AI answer engines like ChatGPT and Perplexity, not just ranked on Google. As AI search replaces zero-click browsing, being a citable, trustworthy source is the durable advantage.

Honest pricing
Free for everyone with an account: full directory access, listing creation, claiming, and the do-follow backlink. Paid Boost and Featured placement for launch-day and featured-week visibility is planned, not yet live. Paid placement, when it ships, is clearly labelled as promotion and never changes the honesty of the underlying data.
