User Reviews

Users generally praise Instapaper for being easy to use, useful for saving and reading later, and having a clean UI with solid Android support, sometimes favoring it over Pocket. The major downsides repeated across reviews are reliability issues with saving, overly broad permissions, hard-to-change shortcuts, and an unwanted context-menu item that users want to remove.
Pros
  • Easy to use and quick to set up
  • Very useful for saving articles to read later
  • Clean, practical user interface
  • Android integration allows saving and reading on mobile
  • Viewed as a strong alternative to Pocket
Cons
  • Unreliable saving and inconsistent operation (save sometimes fails or redirects to an error page)
  • Permissions are too broad (requires 'Access your data for all websites' instead of just the current tab URL)
  • Keyboard shortcuts are not customizable and can interfere (e.g., Ctrl+I, Ctrl+Shift+I)
  • Context menu entry cannot be easily removed or disabled

Doesn't work - sends me to a new page saying "You shouldn't see this page under normal circumstances" no matter what I do. I've changed my cookies permissions and everything but still doesn't save my boookmark, even if i click the button on the page it's opened

Is Instapaper Safe?

Risk impact
Risk impact measures the level of extra permissions an extension has access to. A low risk impact extension cannot do much harms, whereas a high risk impact extension can do a lot of damage like stealing your password, bypassing your security settings, and accessing your personal data. High risk impact extensions are not necessarily malicious. However, if they do turn malicious, they can be very harmful.

Instapaper requires some sensitive permissions that could impact your browser and data security. Exercise caution before installing.
