Review summary

The 'image-save' Firefox add-on is praised for its simplicity and easy right-click functionality to save Instagram images with minimal permissions. However, several users report that it has stopped working recently or the download button disappears. Additionally, it only saves the visible image at lower resolutions rather than the original high-quality image. Missing usernames in saved file names is another noted drawback. Overall, while it serves its purpose well when functioning, issues with reliability and image quality affect user experience.
Pros
  • Simple and easy to use for downloading Instagram images with right-click functionality.
  • Works with minimal and appropriate permissions (only instagram.com).
  • Effectively copies or saves Instagram images quickly, fulfilling its primary purpose.
  • Users appreciate its straightforwardness without complicated features.
Cons
  • No longer works or stopped functioning correctly in recent updates.
  • Does not download original or higher resolution images, only saves the visible smaller version.
  • Missing username in file names after saving images, which some users miss.
  • Instagram interface changes sometimes cause the download button to disappear.

2026-04-22 Fi***** I have the same issues as the reviews below mine.

2026-04-22 Fi***** Something has recently either changed with this addon or Instagram where all sorts of functions within Instagram no longer work properly, especially anything with a little popup dialog including making new posts and viewing someone's follower/following list. You can now no longer view an individual post as a popped up post superimposed over your timeline either, you have to load it into a new pageload and when you hit the back button in to your timeline your scroll position is totally reset. I've verified disabling this plugin removes these problem behaviors, so it is definitely the plugin or something Instagram is doing to interfere with users of the plugin. In either case, something needs a fix.

2026-04-17 Un***** At a glance, I thought it did what I needed and what it says it does. However, it actually doesn't just add the "save image as" option to Instagram, it breaks the pop-up where you can navigate between posts and forces you into single post view. Then, when you try to back out to the account again, it stays on the individual post even though the URL has changed back to the account. This makes it no easier or more convenient than having to dig through Inspect to grab the images. It needs to function on the built-in popup display.
