Trigger apps to protect your privacy when in anxious or panic situations

Features & Capabilities

Ripple is an innovative "panic button" Chrome extension designed to protect your privacy during anxious or panic situations. It triggers compatible "panic responder" apps to lock, disguise, delete private data, or send emergency messages when you need to react quickly and securely.

Currently in BETA, Ripple supports apps like ChatSecure, Orweb, Umbrella, and Zom, with plans to integrate more. Ideal for scenarios such as pre-raid data protection or emergency data wiping at borders, Ripple ensures your sensitive information remains safe. Developed by the Guardian Project, Ripple is free, open-source, and encourages community involvement through translations and feature contributions.

User Reviews

Users generally appreciate Ripple's innovative concept and potential as a life-saving security app, especially for those needing quick panic responses. However, multiple reviews highlight its limited app integration, difficulty in hiding selected apps, and challenges with configuration options. Compatibility issues with newer Android versions and inconvenient activation methods reduce usability. Despite these drawbacks, users see significant promise in the app's purpose and expect improvements with future updates.
Pros
  • Innovative and potentially life-saving concept especially for people in sensitive or hostile environments.
  • Highly appreciated by some users as a great security addition and useful app for emergency situations.
  • Good integration potential with other security and privacy apps like those in the Guardian Project.
  • Recognized for its unique panic activation idea and use in protecting sensitive information.
  • Users see huge potential for real-world applications and expect positive future developments.
Cons
  • App supports only a limited number of popular apps; users request more app integrations and ability to add more apps.
  • Issues with hidden apps functionality; the app sometimes fails to hide selected apps or opens them instead.
  • App compatibility issues with recent Android OS versions leading to crashes and unexpected closures.
  • Difficulty using or locating features like the edit option to add or remove apps, making configuration challenging.
  • Activation methods are inconvenient or insufficient; users request physical button triggers and SMS/call panic options.

This app is a great idea and is a potential life saver for people working for NGOs in hostile countries etc. I'd love to see it updated for the more recent android os, I'm receiving a message advising the app is built for an older version of Android and it may not work. Unfortunately, this seems to be true as I'm finding the app keeps closing unexpectedly.

Giving it ⭐ ⭐ mainly because the concept is good. However, the actual app lacks support for many popular apps (which I understand is due to other app developers) and poor edit options on existing apps. I also only got it to work with FDroid, as it wouldn't hide the other selected apps. Overall, good idea - bad execution.
