Overview

Features & Capabilities

Fishing Maps Mobile on Android provides convenient satellite maps that you can use to plan your fishing trips, and reduce fuel costs by going straight to the target zone. Our mobile app is a companion to Fishing Maps which helps fishers interpret the oceanography and find the feed. We provide accurate and detailed interpretation of the satellite maps in plain language for fishers to use to fish smarter. Our maps and interpretive blogs and posts help you to find the feed. Find the feed, and you find the fish.

Designed as the mobile companion to Fishing Maps, Fishing Maps Mobile brings sea surface temperature, temperature breaks (or fronts), chlorophyll, ocean current, and sea surface height directly into layered maps you can interact with — helping game fishers identify productive water and plan their trips with confidence. Using the maps you can find the zones where plankton and bait fish aggregate over several days. Being able to quickly find the feed means less time spent searching, which saves you money on fuel.

FEATURES

• Visualise sea surface temperature, fronts, chlorophyll, currents, sea surface height, and bathymetry layers, and easily switch between layers.
• Select an individual region where you are fishing to get high resolution maps that are far clearer than most because the colours are spread across the data range for each fishing region individually, rather than over much bigger regions.
• Benefit from our even illuminance colour maps that minimize distortion and colour artefacts that can deceive you.
• Identify features of interest, like strong fronts, mark them with waypoints, and use the marks to see how the features look on the other layers, like SST, chlorophyll, currents, or bathymetry.
• Layer opacity control — Blend satellite data with the base map to suit your preference. The base map shows detail of towns, roads, and other features.
• Waypoints — Mark and save fishing spots with coordinates, timestamps, and custom labels. Waypoint labels link waypoint coordinates to Google Maps using a clickable link.
• Copy waypoint label data (Time and Date, Lat/Lon, and a comment) to SMS and send it to a friend, or to a fishing competition coordinator. Everything needed to log your catch from an SMS message.
• Measure distances between 2 points.
• GPX import — Import waypoints from a GPX file to bring in marks from your chartplotter or other apps.
• Cloud sync — Your waypoints are saved to your account and available across devices.
• GPS tracking — See your real-time position on the map and track your boat as you fish so you see where you have been.
• Centre your device on the map.
• Move a crosshair cursor across the map to see live lat/lon coordinates.
• Hide the top bar, bottom bar and side bar to get maximum screen size for the map.
• Forgot how to do something? Just bring up the embedded user manual to get your answer easily.
• Optionally send your catch info (Time and Date, Lat/Lon, and your catch) confidentially direct to Sam McClatchie at Fishing Maps to help improve Fishing Maps.

Fishing Maps is developed and maintained by an experienced fisheries oceanographer (Sam McClatchie) who enjoys interpreting ocean science for fishers. Feel free to interact, offer feedback, and ask questions through WhatsApp or email (contacts on the Fishing Maps website www.fishingmaps.info)
