The National Portal of India, developed under the India Portal Project by the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology, Government of India, provides single-window access to government information and services at all levels. Launched in 2005, the portal serves as an authentic source of government-related content for both citizens and overseas visitors. Over the years, it has evolved into a trusted gateway for seamless access to digital government services.
India Portal 2.0 marks a comprehensive redesign and upgrade of the original portal. It features advanced functionality, cutting-edge technology, and a modern, user-friendly interface. Built on a microservices-based architecture, the portal ensures universal accessibility, high scalability, and optimal performance. It adheres to the Guidelines for Indian Government Websites (GIGW) and is available in multiple Indian languages. The portal spans a wide array of sectors, including education, agriculture, travel, transport, art and culture, commerce, communication, defence, environment and forests, finance and taxation, food and public distribution, and more.
The portal serves as a unified platform for over 12,000 government services—ranging from passport applications and public utility services to downloadable forms, job listings, policies, schemes, news updates, and more.
Designed to be Divyangjan-friendly, the portal ensures an inclusive and immersive experience for all users. Its integrated feedback mechanism enables users to offer suggestions, report issues, and share service-related experiences. Fully responsive across all devices, the portal conforms to WCAG Level AA accessibility standards under GIGW. Feedback channels such as forms, comments, ratings, and suggestions further enhance the user experience.
In terms of content coverage, the portal features a directory of verified links to online services such as PAN, Aadhaar, and Voter ID. It provides up-to-date information on government schemes for diverse user groups, including farmers, students, women, and youth. The contact directory lists current leaders and provides contact details for ministries, departments, and district-level officials. The ""Explore India"" section highlights tourism, accommodations, cuisine, and regional specialties across districts. A dedicated news section delivers verified updates from sources such as PIB, AIR, and DD News. The portal also supports access to Open Government Data, promoting transparency and data sharing. Furthermore, citizen engagement is encouraged through interactive features like tasks, polls, and discussions hosted via the integrated MyGov platform.
