Category C + E - For you to be able to drive drawbar or articulated types of lorries, you must first obtain the Category C plus E license. You will be allowed to virtually drive any HGV with this license. All these licenses require the applicant to be at least 18 years old. This license is enforced by the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency, also known as VOSA. VOSA was formed on 1st April 2003 following the merger of the Vehicle Inspectorate and the Traffic Area Network division of the Department for Transport. VOSA was set up by the British Government to provide a range of services such as licensing, testing and criminal enforcement with the primary objective of improving the standards of HGV vehicles and Passenger vehicles on British roads. There are two ways to get an HGV license. The first way is by finding someone who will sponsor you. The second way is by paying for the license yourself.
