Summary

EARN A HUGE AND PROFESSIONAL WAGE WITH HGV LICENSE If you want to opt for a new career this New Year, one remarkable option is to be an HGV driver. Being an HGV driver is demanding, but it can earn you a steady and professional wage. Typically, higher wages are paid to those who hold higher levels of licenses. This can be earned in as little time as five days. If you are a conscientious vehicle driver, you will be able to make it through the intensive eight-hour-a-day training. It may seem like military camp to start. However, you are likely to catch on fast enough to earn your license. Furthermore, the probability that you will be able to find a job quickly is very high. In the UK alone there are over 80,000 vacancies. As an HGV driver, you will be able to earn a substantial amount of money. New C drivers will earn between £qualified C drivers make about £650 a week. Once you gain more experience, you will then be earning up to £800 a week, which is over £16 per hour. There are three types of license depending on the make and model of the vehicle which you plan to drive around. Category C1 - These vehicles are more than 3.5 tons in weight but less than 7.5 tons in terms of Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW). Towing a vehicle may be done as long as it does not exceed 7.5 tons in GVW. If you passed your test, you will have a license to drive vehicles more than 3.5 tons in weight, and trailers of not more than 750 kg. Category C - Having this license allows you to drive an HGV with a gross weight over 7.5 tons, but not exceeding 32 tons. The vehicle for this is the type where the cab and trailer are permanently fixed together. If you don't have the category E license, any towed trailer must not be more than 750 kg in weight. Category C + E - For you to be able to drive drawbar or articulated types of lorries, you must first obtain the Category C plus E license. You will be allowed to virtually drive any HGV with this license. All these licenses require the applicant to be at least 18 years old. After appropriate training, he or she can then proceed to take the respective tests for each license category. This license is enforced by the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency, also known as VOSA. VOSA was formed on 1st April 2003 following the merger of the Vehicle Inspectorate and the Traffic Area Network division of the Department for Transport. VOSA was set up by the British Government to provide a range of services such as licensing, testing and criminal enforcement with the primary objective of improving the standards of HGV vehicles and Passenger vehicles on British roads. VOSA also has the task of being the 'middle man' between various road agencies, helping to liaise and coordinate legal proceedings with The Traffic Commissioners Department, Local Councils, and the Police. There are two ways to get an HGV license. The first way is by finding someone who will sponsor you. The second way is by paying for the license yourself. However, paying for a HGV license yourself is a much better option as compared to looking for sponsorship. Though not impossible, finding a sponsor is usually very hard and requires that you join a company that will provide free training for you to drive an HGV. The trouble with free company training is that you will not only have to work for the company upon the completion of your training but also buy your own HGV. On the other hand, when you pay for the license yourself, you will get the license after successfully taking a few lessons and passing some tests. The advantage of this is that you are free to work for anyone of your choice, or better still you can drive your own HGV. If you're looking for a good HGV training in London, specialised HGV is a specialist training school that offer HGV training courses and help you get your HGV license. They have a lot of competent experts and professional instructors in the company that can help you flourish your career as long as you paid enough attention during the training, comprehended everything the instructors told you and you were active throughout the entire training
