Opener ‒ open links in apps

Open links in apps

Features & Capabilities

Opener is an iOS app that lets you open web links directly in the apps they belong to, instead of the default Web view. Copy a link or use Opener’s action extension from other apps to reveal a growing catalog of compatible apps and browsers (over 280 and counting).

In addition to opening in apps, Opener offers features like opening in any browser, generating QR codes and shortened links from the long-press menu, previews from popular services, and AMP-page support for faster loading. The app is praised by MacStories, Lifehacker, CNET, and TechCrunch for saving time and simplifying browsing. For a complete list of supported apps, visit opener.link/apps.

User Reviews

Users praise Opener for giving precise control over which app opens a link, reducing browser redirects and improving daily workflow. It’s widely considered essential and routinely used across apps (Instagram, YouTube, Maps). However, repeated feedback notes its list isn’t pruneable and favorites aren’t supported, and there’s demand for a Safari/automation extension. Reliability is also a concern for some users, with occasional crashes or misrouted links. Overall, strong value and usefulness with notable opportunities to enhance UX and expand extension support.
Pros
  • Gives precise control over which app opens a link when multiple apps can handle it.
  • Prevents links from opening in a browser or the wrong app, improving reliability and your workflow.
  • An essential daily tool that many users describe as a lifesaver and worth the price.
  • Useful for specific app-handling scenarios (e.g., opening Instagram or Maps in their own apps).
  • Good value for money at the $2 price; often praised as worth it.
Cons
  • Cannot prune or favorite/uninstall unused apps; requires scrolling through a long list.
  • Requests for a Safari extension or automation extension; this feature is currently missing and repeatedly requested.
  • Some reliability concerns and occasional failures where a link doesn’t open in the intended app or experiences crashes.

Opener lets me open what I want, where I want. I couldn’t live without it.

Opener is very handy in how it lets you easily open links in specific apps that support them, but it has a couple annoying weak points. The first being the some of the suggestions are outdated while some newer and better options aren’t included. The second is that if you use more than one app for a specific kind of link, you need to scroll through the whole list of associated apps. There’s no way to remove the options you don’t have installed. It would be nice to be able to remove the ones that aren’t useful to me or at least favorite the ones I actually use.
