Features & Capabilities

One thumb, full keyboard. Boomerang moves every key toward your thumb — or switch to a familiar Standard QWERTY anytime. No Full Access, no tracking, ever.

One thumb. Full alphabet.

Boomerang is a custom keyboard built for typing with a single thumb. Instead of shrinking the standard QWERTY grid, Boomerang rearranges every letter, number, and symbol so the keys you use most sit closest to your thumb — no stretching, no missed taps, no second hand required.

HOW IT WORKS

  • Every English letter appears exactly once, rebuilt into a compact five-row layout anchored to your thumb's natural reach.
  • Three live suggestions sit on a wide rail at the edge of the keyboard, each paired with a one-tap thumb shortcut.
  • One key instantly mirrors the entire layout for your other hand — the suggestion rail, shortcuts, and edge controls all move together.
  • Numbers in phone-style order and a full symbol board are one tap away.

PREFER A FAMILIAR LAYOUT? Switch to Standard mode for a conventional, unsplit QWERTY keyboard with a classic suggestion bar above the keys — same on-device suggestions, familiar shape. Tap once to switch between Boomerang and Standard; long-press to jump to any other keyboard you have installed.

LEARN AT YOUR OWN PACE Turn on Learning Colors to tint each key with the color of its original QWERTY row, so the new positions map back to muscle memory you already have. Turn it off once Boomerang's arrangement feels natural.

BUILT TO STAY OUT OF YOUR WAY Boomerang works without requesting Full Access. It has no network connection, no analytics, no accounts, and no cloud prediction — suggestions come entirely from your device. The only setting it stores is shared privately between the app and the keyboard extension, and it's never uploaded anywhere.

WORKS EVERYWHERE YOU TYPE Boomerang supports iPhone and iPad, portrait and landscape, light and dark mode, and both hands. Standard system behaviors — emoji, dictation access, keyboard switching, shift and caps lock — all work exactly as expected.

Boomerang doesn't ask you to learn a new alphabet order for its own sake. It asks you to trade a small, one-time learning curve for a keyboard that finally fits how you actually hold your phone.

User Reviews

The idea behind the keyboard is an interesting one, but the efficiency in the design was not. The totally new layout is not very easy to learn, and why it had to be a totally new layout is beyond me. It's not a very good design in my opinion, and I really hope that the AFKPU keyboard will be released(Google it. That is one very intuitive keyboard and its different keyboard layout actually makes a lot of sense). Additionally, the button placement for some keys, especially the punctuation and space buttons were poorly placed and not very ergonomic. They force the typist to shift their hands while typing, and on such a crucial key like the space button, this is a very bad thing. With all the shifting and movement needed, the typist might as well use a normal two handed keyboard. Overall, this app is not worth your time and I strongly discourage against downloading it. However, if you have a very flexible thumb and an iPhone 6plus, there's no harm in downloading just to try it. The download takes seconds, and maybe you might like it. But for the majority of people who have small phones and normal thumbs, this app will not be useful.

This is a very useful keyboard! It allows me to use one hand to type. Easily the best keyboard on iOS
