Features & Capabilities

Mopeka TankCheck is designed to work with the Mopeka TankCheck sensor to measure LPG (propane) levels and show the exact fill percentage on your tank. It supports tanks used in RVs, heaters, BBQ grills, and more. The magnetically attached sensors periodically report readings to the TankCheck app, giving you clear insight into when you’ll need a fill.

Usage is simple: pair the sensor by pressing Sync on the back while the app is open (the first use requires five rapid Sync presses to wake the sensor). Place the sensor at the center underside of the tank, then flip the tank and let the fluid settle for a stable reading. This patent-pending tech helps you avoid unexpectedly running out of propane.

User Reviews

Overall, Mopeka TankCheck offers convenient remote monitoring of propane tanks via sensors and a WiFi bridge, with reliable readings and long sensor life for multiple tanks. However, the app is hampered by reliability and usability issues. Users report significant iPhone battery drain from background activity, frequent connectivity and pairing problems, and noisy or incorrect notifications. Feature gaps: no landscape mode on iPad, no dark mode, no trend data, and limited alert customization—hinder the experience, along with presets that don’t fit common 15 lb tanks. Support and bridge reliability add to frustration. The sensor hardware remains solid when it works.
Pros
  • Remote monitoring across multiple tanks via WiFi bridge, ideal for RVs and homes.
  • Sensor hardware provides reliable readings with long battery life.
  • Convenient mobile visibility of tank levels for quick checks.
  • Generally good performance for its intended purpose when sensors connect.
Cons
  • Significant iPhone battery drain from background activity and refresh.
  • Inconsistent connectivity and pairing; sensors won't reconnect and may pair to only one device.
  • Notification issues: excessive or mis-timed alerts that ignore user-set intervals.
  • Missing essential features and UI gaps: no iPad landscape mode, no dark mode, no trend data, limited alert customization.
  • Tank-size presets do not cover common 15 lb tanks; calibration/workarounds required.

This doesn’t make any sense. Most folks have 15lb tanks and the smallest selection on the app is 20lbs. They have an arbitrary option to input the height of your tank in to circumvent that issue, however, IT DOESN’T WORK. When I put in my Blue Rihno 28” tank that was just filled, it showed it at 57% full no matter how many times I reservoir zero’d it. Then when I selected back to 20lbs it showed 100% capacity. So what’s accurate? This is terribly advertised and horribly implemented for something that cost this much money.

Tank sensor What a piece of junk! Replace battery and they won’t since back up! The app will keep running! App will drain your battery!

They work great, when they work. I don’t know why I keep buying them but I do. I’m on my 4th one and this one barely made it a month before it stopped working. You’d think for what they charge for them they would be better quality but sadly they’re not. Trying to contact them is another nightmare so this will be the last one I will buy, they’re $70 worth of junk.
