User Reviews

Watch Chess is praised for its clean UI and strong tournament replay features on iPhone, with a reasonable subscription and good study value. However, reviewers note gaps in tournament coverage (missing live events and certain categories) and a desire for built-in engine analysis/evaluation tools with toggle options. Overall, a solid, user-friendly chess companion that would benefit from broader data and integrated analysis.
Pros
  • Excellent, intuitive UI for replaying tournament games across devices.
  • Rich replay/analysis features: game reports, engine lines, and 'what-if' move exploration.
  • Strong mobile experience: easy to follow tournaments and a fairly priced subscription.
  • Helpful for study: supports opening moves and studying grandmasters' games.
Cons
  • Incomplete tournament coverage: missing live events and some categories (e.g., women's games) across Olympiads and other tournaments.
  • Lack of built-in engine analysis: users want evaluation bars and engine suggestions, plus easier analysis toggling and overall analytical tools.

Magnus’s Take Take Take is basically doing what this app has been doing for a while, but with a big name attached to it. I’m sad to see fewer people will download this one now, because it really is wonderful. The subscription is very modestly priced and extremely worth it. This is way better than Take Take Take, which explains super simple concepts, while this app gives a game report, engine lines, and lets you toy around with the moves.

It’s always been painful on mobile to find all the games and tournaments, I tried the free version and it was promising so I upgraded to paid and don’t regret it at all. The interface is good and it does exactly what I need. Super easy to follow all the tournaments now!

So I downloaded this app to use on my Apple Watch, but it has no indicator whether or not the match ended in the checkmate, a stalemate, or a resignation, half of the time I couldn’t figure out how it was a stale or checkmate, but I do like watching the games progress, but an indicator of the way the match and would be nice
