Features & Capabilities

Strobe Light Tachometer turns your iPhone into a controllable strobe light using the flashlight. It lets you dial the flash rate from 1 Hz to 130 Hz (60-7800 RPM) to visually freeze or reveal motion.

Use it as a tachometer to measure RPM of rotating objects like fans. Features include a speed slider, quick x2 and ÷2 adjustments, precise fine-tuning to two decimals, manual RPM entry, light/dark themes, and dual Hz/RPM display.

User Reviews

Users praise the app for accurate timing, ease of use, and versatility across tools and demonstrations, and note it’s free. However, brightness is often too dim, pulses are inconsistent, device compatibility and reliability vary by model, and there are occasional speed-read inaccuracies and ads, leading to mixed experiences depending on device and use case.
Pros
  • Accurate speed readings (RPM) and precise Hertz mapping
  • Easy to use and quick to operate, even one-handed
  • Very useful across a range of applications (lathe, drill press, fans, zoetropes) with clear metrics
  • Flashes are clean and not overly bright, reducing overexposure in some setups
  • Free app with strong value
Cons
  • Strobe brightness is often too dim for visibility
  • Pulse/brightness is inconsistent and can pause or miss beats
  • Compatibility and reliability issues on certain iPhone models (e.g., SE, XS) and occasional outages
  • Inaccurate readings at certain speeds (low speeds around 60 rpm; some high-frequency discrepancies)
  • Occasional ads or monetization friction in the interface

The flash is not bright enough to be useful.

This app no longer works.

Very disappointed in this flawed app. The strobe light, although accurate in speed, cannot hold its light and blacks out every 2 seconds. Useless.
