User Reviews

DayGram is praised for its clean, distraction-free UI and privacy-friendly, ad-free model with solid cross-device syncing and the ability to backfill past days. Users repeatedly highlight its simplicity and long-term reliability. Common drawbacks involve sync reliability, occasional crashes, and export/backup limitations, with frequent requests for more customization and features (fonts, dark mode, image exports). Overall, it’s a beloved, low-friction diary that could benefit from stability tweaks and feature expansion.
Pros
  • Ads-free, privacy-first approach with no forced subscriptions and a one-time purchase.
  • Clean, minimal UI that is distraction-free and easy to use.
  • Strong cross-device syncing across iPhone, iPad, and Mac (with updates improving reliability).
  • Ability to backfill past days and log past entries, offering flexible journaling.
  • Optional passcode/privacy protection to keep diaries secure.
Cons
  • Sync can be slow or inconsistent across devices, leading to delays in updates.
  • Occasional crashes or instability that can cause entries not to be saved.
  • Data export/backups are not straightforward (difficulty exporting; backup may require email; PDF exports can be unreadable).
  • Feature gaps and customization requests (more fonts, exporting as images, color thumbnails, dark mode, weather/location autos).

I always feel like journaling never worked for me but knowing that putting a sentence or two is enough for DayGram…it starts a habit that I’ve tried numerous times and failed. Give it a try. Also a nice way to get an idea out of your head and into your phone as quickly as possible. Having short-term memory problems, that very important for me.

I’m really happy to see DayGram being maintained again. It’s my favorite diary app, and I often recommend it to friends. I have one small request: could you add a time format option in Settings, so users can choose between 24-hour time and AM/PM? Using AM/PM slows me down because I have to mentally convert it each time, so I often end up rewriting it in 24-hour format manually. — for example, 00:59 instead of 12:59 AM. I’ve been doing that several times a day for years. A simple toggle would make a big difference. —————— Thanks! I hadn’t used DayGram for a while because of compatibility issues, and I just downloaded it again a few days ago. I found the setting and have already switched it 🥳
