Features & Capabilities

  • The Bailbooks Defendant Check-In Chrome extension is a companion tool that helps defendants perform routine check-ins with their bail agent. It supports PIN-based check-ins and can share your location with the agent when you opt in for location updates. Background location reporting is available so you don’t have to manually open the extension to notify your agent of your status.
  • You can disable background location reporting by turning off location services for the Bailbooks extension in your device settings at any time. Continued use of GPS in the background may affect battery life, which is noted in the disclaimer.

User Reviews

Users generally find Bailbooks Defendant Check-In convenient for online check-ins, tracking payments and court dates, and saving time on trips to the bondsman, with responsive agents. However, recurring instability (crashes, login errors, error codes), camera-related check-in failures, device activation/unlinking after updates, and privacy/permission concerns undermine reliability for some users. Overall, experiences are mixed: solid value for many, but significant issues deter others.
Pros
  • Easy to use with a simple interface.
  • Online check-in eliminates in-office visits.
  • Helps keep track of payments and court dates.
  • Speeds up check-ins and saves travel/gas costs.
  • Bonding agents are easy to work with and helpful.
Cons
  • Frequent crashes and login issues, including error codes.
  • Selfie-based check-ins often fail due to camera problems (black preview).
  • Device activation/unlink problems after updates (requires reinstall or reactivation).
  • Privacy concerns about location access and permissions (camera, messages, phone, social media).
