User Reviews

Scrivener on iOS is strong for organization and on-the-go writing, with robust project structure, cross-device potential, and useful accessibility features. However, it is plagued by persistent syncing bugs (especially with Dropbox), unreliable editing/formatting on mobile, limited cloud options, and a lack of updates, which leads to data loss risks and a less than ideal mobile experience.
Pros
  • Excellent organization with binder-style folders and subfolders, keeping research, notes, and drafts in one place.
  • Mobile-friendly, writer-focused experience that’s more intuitive for on-the-go drafting than alternatives like Google Docs.
  • Corkboard and project-structure features help plan and manage long-form works.
  • Cross-device syncing between iPhone/iPad and desktop for a seamless workflow (when it works).
  • Accessibility features (e.g., VoiceOver) and overall usability for writers.
Cons
  • Persistent syncing issues with Dropbox and data loss; requires Dropbox and often conflicts between devices.
  • Mobile/iOS version is buggy for editing and formatting (formatting menus vanishing, font size controls broken, find/replace broken).
  • Limited cloud storage options; other services (OneDrive, Google Drive) are not supported or easily integrated.
  • Lack of ongoing updates and development; perceived as abandoned or not keeping pace with platform changes.
  • Corkboard and core features are often inaccessible or limited on mobile/tablet, reducing their usefulness.

It was not clearly stated that the iPad version was severely empty of the tooted Scrivener features like templates. If I’d know that I would not have wasted $23. Feeling very much ripped off and sold a product that did not deliver what was promised. This iPad version is barely any better than a simple note app. This is a very expensive note app.

The MacOS app is great. This is a mess. Don’t waste your money on this junk.
