User Reviews

Users praise CuriosityStream for a strong, diverse documentary library and regular new titles, with good value including a lifetime option. However, multiple reviews cite recurring problems: billing and cancellation difficulties, streaming and device performance issues, lack of family profiles and limited accessibility options, aging or lower-quality content, and a clunky UI. These recurring themes explain why overall sentiment is mixed despite the strong core content.
Pros
  • Excellent, diverse documentary library spanning science, history, nature, and technology.
  • Broad range of topics and partner content (e.g., National Geographic) appealing to curious learners.
  • Content is added regularly, keeping the catalog fresh.
  • Perceived good value for money with a reasonable price and even a lifetime subscription option.
  • Overall content quality and usefulness are often regarded as better than competing streaming services.
Cons
  • Billing and cancellation are frequently difficult: recurring charges, hard-to-cancel online, and loops or delayed refunds.
  • Playback and streaming issues on Apple devices: slow performance, bugs, buffering, and casting problems.
  • Lack of multiple profiles for families and limited subtitles/audio options; kid mode missing.
  • Some content is aging or lower quality (poor audio, episodes greyed out) and not updated as often as users would like.
  • Clunky UI/navigation and cluttered watchlist (Keep Watching) that makes content management frustrating.

Unethical subscription practices. Once they have your credit card, you are doomed. Cannot cancel online either, even on the very day that the charge appears on your credit card! Their website just sends you into a loop. When I wrote to them about this and said I want to cancel my subscription, they ignored my points entirely, but said they would cut their annual fee in half - but only if I contacted them again to let them know that I want to stay on with them again this year - which presumably means that we would repeat this process again next year. This is an UNETHICAL operation. You have been warned.

They dont allow you to cancel your subscription with the same amount of ease as signing up for it. They wont even let you stop paying in app. You have to get redirected to some other site. Just not seeing “stop paying” easily in my app settings just felt really manipulative.

When I was a kid, I used to watch Discovery Channel all the time went to the store bought the tapes, but they don’t care about exploring the world anymore or showing cool documentaries when I found out Curiosity Stream was created by the original founders. I checked it out got a promo code sponsorship so I got a discount for a whole year and been watching ever since it’s good to know that documentary still have a place on streaming besides YouTube and Netflix
