Features & Capabilities

SoundPrint is a crowd-sourced decibel meter that lets you measure a venue’s noise level and submit it to a shared database. You can then search for venues based on how quiet, moderate, or noisy they are, helping you choose spaces that suit conversations and hearing health.

With easy submission, international coverage, and Apple Watch/HealthKit integration to analyze noise on the submissions screen, SoundPrint aims to raise awareness of ambient sound. Note: This is not a professional measurement device and should be used for general sound level awareness.

User Reviews

The app is valued for helping users find quieter venues via a community-driven noise database, with time-of-day detail and a Quiet List, plus easy-to-use decibel measurements. It’s particularly useful for hearing-impaired users. However, persistent issues include outdated/incorrect venue data, malfunctioning search, measurement inaccuracies, and reliability problems with submissions and iOS microphone access. When functioning, it offers helpful, ad-free guidance for planning quieter dining experiences. Maintenance gaps and reliability challenges limit long-term usefulness.
Pros
  • Helps find quieter venues and have conversations thanks to user-contributed noise ratings.
  • Decibel readings with time-of-day breakdown and a Quiet List provide actionable information.
  • Simple to use with clear results; data is community-sourced for better dining decisions.
  • Useful for people with hearing loss to plan outings and avoid loud environments.
  • Generally ad-free compared with other apps and focuses on crowd-sourced noise data.
Cons
  • Data is outdated or inaccurate: many venues are closed, listings are missing, and popular destinations may be absent.
  • Search function is frequently dysfunctional and unreliable.
  • Decibel measurements can be inaccurate due to phone mic limitations (e.g., issues with max vs. average, calibration).
  • Data submission and server reliability problems; users cannot always access submissions or submit new data.
  • Microphone access/permissions issues on iOS (no access or intermittent problems on newer versions).
Recent reviews
I suffer from severe tinnitus, and it’s always been a problem finding relatively quiet places to go out for meals. This app has been extremely helpful and easy to use. I’ve made several noise level submissions myself.

A lot of the restaurants posted are no longer in business while existing restaurants are not even listed. I’m not referring to new restaurants but like ones that have been around. Olive Garden? SIGH
