Buttons is an app for creating and using custom single-purpose macro keyboards for the purpose of event logging. Typical uses include field notes, research or hobbies like birding. Buttons is also great if you have a variety of similar tasks that need to be recorded repeatedly and you want precise timestamps and locations for each.

Once you’ve built a keyboard you can use it to record interesting events with minimal friction. Each event is timestamped and geotagged. The logs can be exported in several popular plain text formats including KML, GPX and CSV. Your keyboards can be exported and be easily distributed to a team of people so that everyone is using the same format.

People with communication difficulties, whether due to disability or otherwise, can use buttons as a speech synthesiser or a non-verbal poster board.
