Features & Capabilities

Carista OBD2 is a DIY car diagnostic and service app that connects to compatible vehicles through an OBD2 adapter. Diagnose and reset dashboard warning lights, read manufacturer-specific fault codes, monitor live vehicle data, customize comfort features, and perform routine procedures from your iPhone.

The app supports a wide range of brands, including Audi, BMW, Ford, Honda, Toyota, Volkswagen, Volvo, and more. Advanced functionality requires a Carista Pro subscription and compatible hardware, such as the Carista EVO Scanner or supported third-party OBD2 adapters.

User Reviews

Carista OBD2 is usable and can customize supported vehicles, especially with external adapters. However, the service is hampered by a costly subscription model tied to mandatory hardware upgrades, compatibility changes, intrusive upsell prompts, reliability issues after updates, and misalignment between advertised features and real availability for some models.
Pros
  • The app can successfully customize vehicle settings and perform desired modifications on supported makes/models when used with compatible hardware.
  • It works with third-party OBD adapters, offering flexibility beyond Carista's own hardware.
  • For users with intermittent needs, the value comes from paying only when features are required rather than constant usage.
  • Overall, it is functional and provides useful features for users with compatible vehicles.
Cons
  • High cost due to a recurring subscription plus mandatory hardware purchases to access full functionality.
  • Hardware upgrades and compatibility issues force users to buy new dongles and can drop support for older devices.
  • Intrusive ads and aggressive upgrade prompts inside the app detract from the experience.
  • Reliability issues after updates (e.g., broken login, difficulty restoring subscriptions) and other maintenance problems.
  • Mismatch between advertised features on the website and what is actually available in the app for certain vehicle models / trims.

Version 10 no longer lets me connect to obdlink mx+ after I just got through paying for a year subscription to be able to use this. Please fix
by Kn*****, 2026-09-03

I paid for a monthly subscription and downloaded this app on August 5th, 2026. I used OBDLink MX+ scan tool with it to program the new TPMS on my Toyota Tacoma successfully. The app recognized my scan tool perfectly. I tried using it again with the same scan tool on my GMC Sierra, August 30th, 2026 only to find out that it won’t recognize my scan tool now. “Failed to connect,Report problem”… so I reported it and was told by app support that it didn’t work with my scan tool. I told them I used it less than a month ago and it did work. They said “thanks for clarifying but the OBDLinkMX+ is no longer supported”. Thanks, but no thanks! $20 down the tubes! So I decided to do a review. I WOULDN’T recommend this app to anyone. UNSUBSCRIBED!
