Features & Capabilities

CBP Border Wait Times extension delivers official Border Wait Time data from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection to your browser. It shows estimated wait times and open-lane status 24/7 at ports of entry that process commercial vehicles, passenger vehicles, and pedestrians.

The data is broken down by crossing and lane type (Standard, SENTRI, FAST, Ready Lane, Nexus, etc.), helping travelers plan crossings and choose the best time to cross. This free service is provided by the Department of Homeland Security/CBP.

User Reviews

User reviews are mixed. Many say the app is helpful for planning border crossings, with features like multiple ports, maps, and webcam previews. However, chronic reliability concerns dominate: wait times are frequently inaccurate or outdated, sometimes by hours; some ports and pedestrian lane information is misleading; and mislabeled crossings reduce usefulness. Several users report slow responses or the app not updating in real time. Despite the flaws, a subset of travelers still rely on it for planning, hoping for improvements in data accuracy and update frequency.
Pros
  • Helps plan border crossings by providing wait estimates and lane options (Ready Lane vs regular).
  • Provides information for multiple border crossings and nearby ports, including maps and webcams to preview traffic.
  • Easy-to-use interface that is useful for frequent travelers and business trips.
Cons
  • Wait times are often inaccurate or not up-to-date, sometimes off by hours.
  • Data appears outdated; some reviews note no updates in years.
  • Lane availability and Ready Lane (pedestrian) information is unreliable or misleading.
  • Borders/port labels are misidentified or incorrect at times.
  • App performance issues such as freezing or slow refreshing.

Not even better than nothing if you’re trying to plan when to cross.

The state department sells passport cards under the premise that it gives you access to ready lane but in reality CBP @ San Ysidro harms vulnerable pedestrian traffic by denying access to ready lanes by pedestrians and only offers it to automobiles. This targets the poor, handicapped and those of color. The data put into this app is dishonest just like the CBP Port Directors putting the false information into the app abusing the public’s trust in their institutions. Fraudulent reporting of ready lanes being open for pedestrians

I downloaded the app & used it when traveling through the Presidio Bridge. The app stated 45 minutes to pass & it literally took 6 hours to pass. Unrealistic information is provided. The data that is used to provide the estimate is make believe! Don’t waste your time downloading this ridiculous useless app!
