User Reviews

Overall, reviews for Wire on iOS are polarized. A strong thread praises the app's security and straightforward UI, with many longtime users appreciating end-to-end encryption and simple setup. However, recurring complaints focus on reliability: inconsistent notifications, connection issues, and delayed or missing messages. Updates often disrupt features or layouts, sometimes locking users out or forcing OS updates. Some also note accessibility/login quirks and limited UI customization. Users who value privacy and security may be satisfied, but reliability and update-related regressions are common concerns.
Pros
  • Strong security and end-to-end encryption.
  • Simple UI and easy onboarding; easy for friends to download and connect.
  • Long-standing reputation as a secure messenger.
  • Device-based login provides perceived robust security on supported devices.
Cons
  • Notifications do not work reliably; users don’t receive alerts.
  • Unstable connectivity and slow or failed message delivery; app often cannot connect.
  • Updates frequently break features or UI, and some changes can be hard to revert.
  • Forced updates on iOS can cause login issues or access problems, including loopbacks to the App Store.
  • Lack of UI customization options (e.g., inability to disable chat bubble colors).
Recent reviews
Ever wanted to use an app where you never get notifications? Where you have to reset your notification token every 5 minutes otherwise there’s nothing and sometimes, even after resetting there’s still nothing? How about a support team who ignores the problem and goes out of their way to blame you for their own mistakes? How about an app that just straight up doesn’t connect and the only way to “fix” it is to restart your phone, not the app, the entire phone because it’s running on spaghetti code? If you want a buggy mess then this app is for you! Update: the app still hasn’t been fixed. If you ever need to know when someone has messaged you then please, by all means, do not rely on this app.

Notifications are STILL not working.

I see other reviews where it’s stated that the notification issue was fixed. I just installed this app about a week ago. They have not worked since. Very frustrating.
