Features & Capabilities

SciKey is a customizable scientific keyboard designed for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch. It provides 3,000+ scientific characters—Greek and Latin letters, mathematical symbols, emoji, and more—accessible across all apps (web, email, notes, publications). An optional in-app purchase lets you tailor the keyboard with your favorite symbols and snippets.

Ideal for students, researchers, engineers, and writers, SciKey lets you type fast and accurately without switching keyboards. It works wherever you type, making it easier to include precise notation in your notes, papers, and messages.

User Reviews

Pros: strong customization, broad symbol library (often available for free), helpful superscript/subscript features, low-cost upgrade, easy-to-use interface. Cons: reliability and stability issues, mandatory Full Access privacy concerns, upgrade/restoration problems, gaps in symbol coverage (missing common Greek letters), and minimal maintenance with outdated updates. Overall, it’s valuable for math/science typing when it works, but reliability and symbol gaps limit its appeal.
Pros
  • Highly customizable keyboard tailored for math and science work
  • Large library of math/science symbols, with many available for free
  • Useful input features like superscript and subscript support
  • Low-cost upgrade to unlock the full set of features (around $0.99)
  • Simple, straightforward interface that’s practical for math notation
Cons
  • Frequent stability and reliability issues (crashes when selecting the keyboard; inconsistent performance)
  • Requires Full Access to the device, raising privacy concerns and skepticism from some users
  • Upgrade/restore problems (purchases not applying; restore link not functioning) with limited support
  • Missing or incomplete symbols and notation gaps (missing common symbols like theta, mu, rho; limited Greek letters and subscripts/superscripts)
  • Lack of ongoing maintenance (last update years ago; potential compatibility issues with current iOS)

This apps requires you to pay to customize your keyboard. The unpaid version gives you an extremely limited set of options. If you're going to use mathematical/scientific keyboards, use Symbol Keyboards. The developer has a name with Chinese characters – that app will give you access to thousands of characters for free. If you have installed this app, PLEASE rate it one star like me so we can lower this app's rating to 2.9 stars. Do everything to shadowban this app from appearing in the App Store's search results. If you're writing a review, please tell other people about BETTER ALTERNATIVES.
