Pros
  • Huge variety of recipes, including international options, with helpful historical notes behind many dishes.
  • Helpful community features: a robust comment section with tips and troubleshooting.
  • Save recipes with private notes for personal tweaks.
  • Useful search filters to narrow results by complexity and concept.
  • Seasonal/curated content on the front page (e.g., Ramadan) keeps things fresh.
Cons
  • Ads persist in the app even for paid subscribers.
  • App sometimes goes down or won't load recipes, making cooking plans hard.
  • Apple Watch support has been removed or is no longer available.
  • Subscription pricing and cancellation are confusing, including bundle offers.

My old iPad has been on cooking duty. Requiring iOS 18for the latest version and requiring the app to be on the latest version locks me out on this device. That sucks.

When I’m stumped for what to cook for dinner, I turn to the NYT app for suggestions. I just type “chicken” or “salmon” or whatever protein I want to eat in the search bar and begin perusing recipes until I find something that appeals to me. It doesn’t take me long to find a recipe that appeals to me and my family is never disappointed with the meal. Thank you New York Times Cooking!
