Features & Capabilities

PDFOptim provides a straightforward way to compress and optimize PDF documents on iPhone and iPad. It supports Auto Compression with four predefined methods and a Manual mode to customize image color model, resolution, JPEG quality, and vector optimization, all while preserving document integrity. It also features an in-app PDF viewer with search and side-by-side previews for original vs. compressed files.

Sharing and portability are built in: compressed PDFs can be exported as ZIP files, opened in other apps via Open In, shared via AirDrop, or copied to iTunes. The app supports password-protected PDFs and can import documents from other apps. Note: the free version limits exports to one compressed PDF per week; Premium unlocks unlimited exports.

User Reviews

Reviewers repeatedly praise PDFOptim for strong PDF size reduction with minimal quality loss and its easy-to-use interface, along with the appeal of a one-time purchase. However, reliability issues (crashes or launch failures) and mixed compression results temper enthusiasm. Pricing perceptions vary across users. Overall, it’s a practical on-device tool for shrinking PDFs on iPhone, with stability and results varying by document.
Pros
  • Very effective at reducing PDF size with minimal visible quality loss.
  • Simple, intuitive interface that’s easy to use.
  • One-time purchase with no ongoing subscription.
  • Integrates smoothly with common workflows (e.g., exporting PDFs from Keynote or Notability).
Cons
  • Reliability issues: app crashes or won’t open on some devices after updates.
  • Compression results can be inconsistent; some PDFs show noticeable quality degradation or only small size reductions.
  • Pricing perceptions vary; some reviewers find it pricey while others view it as good value.

This app is the best, on apple store. Very understandable design. Smart price for lifetime use. Team who did create the app - you are best. Thank you

This does an amazing job in my early usage at reducing PDF size while preserving decent quality. Thanks! It’s a bit disappointing that it does not support iOS shortcuts, and that you need to buy another copy if you want to use it on macOS. That makes it a bit pricey for a single-purpose utility app.

I compose “how-to’s,” “tips ‘n tricks“ and recipes that I like to send & share with friends & family. These require photos & screenshots because ("A picture is worth a thousand words".) Invariably these documents run into trouble when I try to paste them into an email. Either the pictures are moved around, or the text gets scrambled about, or most often the file refuses to email because ‘it’s too big.” PDFOptim let’s me save my documents as PDF files that are 90%+ smaller than the raw documents. I’ve been able to email the small PDF documents as mail attachments without fail! Price was reasonable & it does the job I need. Takes a bit of time to get the hang of it, but easy after a few goes.
