Overview

Features & Capabilities

MealCam is a photo-first meal log built for intermittent fasters. Snap a meal from the lock screen or Control Center and watch your eating window and patterns unfold. The focus is on images, colors, and hydration rather than calories, helping you understand what and when you eat at a glance.

Create 1‑day or 7‑day summaries to share with a doctor or coach, recall past meals, and spot patterns that affect digestion, bloating, or weight. Data can sync privately via iCloud or stay local, with a widget and iPad multitasking support to fit your routine.

User Reviews

MealCam is praised for its simple, stress-free, photo-centric approach that visually tracks daily meals with a playful UI and easy day-by-day overview. It helps with accountability without intense dieting pressure. Common drawbacks include paid access to past days, moving photos that some find distracting, limited long-term storage, notes not easily visible on the main view, and camera capture limitations with navigation quirks.
Pros
  • Simple and easy to use with a distraction-free approach that avoids calories counting pressure.
  • Visual/photo-centric journal that shows what was eaten and provides a day/week overview.
  • Playful, engaging UI with bouncing/circular photo visuals that boost motivation and accountability.
  • Helpful for quick review of daily intake and the ability to swipe through past days.
  • Focus on eating awareness rather than dieting, appealing to users seeking a light approach.
Cons
  • Pricing for viewing past days is a paid feature with unclear whether it’s a one-time or subscription, which some users find off-putting.
  • Photos move/bounce and can feel chaotic; many users would prefer a static, non-moving layout.
  • Limited long-term storage with only 1–7 days visible unless paid, and features for indefinite storage requested.
  • Notes attached to foods are not readily visible in the daily snapshot; users want overlay or easier access to notes.
  • Camera/capture limitations and navigation issues: no zoom, fixed shooting distance, and occasional ordering issues when viewing multiple days.

I’ve used many meal tracking apps in the past and am so glad I stumbled upon this one. It’s simple to use and extremely functional. I am loving not having the ‘stress’ of all of the bells and whistles on the cumbersome and complicated tracking apps. All we “need” is the knowledge of WHAT we ate to keep ourselves in line with our goals. We’re stressing ourselves out and complicating life with measuring to exactness to count calories and macros. I get that some need to do that but most of us don’t. Keeping it simple is the key to success. The quick swipe for viewing the eating/fasting window was an awesome update, and having all of the photos I took through the day all in one place is what’s keeping me going. It was 100% worth the in-app purchase to see days in the past at a swipe as well. I hope this app developer keeps the app active as it’s the best I’ve ever worked with. I will for sure be recommending it to others.

Ive just been using this app for a couple of days and have been very pleased with the process of tracking my meal in a simple and effective way. Its helped me to realize what im putting in my stomach. the little bubbles bouncing around is a very fun touch and make it seem like a visualization of my stomach contents. Lol. I only wish there were a button to lock the bubbles so they don't fly around as try to make sense of the pictures.
