User Reviews

Overall, reviews celebrate 80 Days for its rich writing, atmospheric visuals, and replayable branching journeys, with a travelogue feel that rewards exploration and offers offline play at a fair price. The main recurring drawbacks are UI scaling and visibility issues on newer iPhone/iPad models, which can render key HUD elements unreadable, plus occasional startup/compatibility glitches on certain devices. A subset of players also view the experience as narrative-focused rather than a traditional game, which shades how some perceive value.
Pros
  • Outstanding writing, dialogue, and branching narrative that adapts to your choices.
  • Stunning visuals, art direction, and immersive sound design that bring a steampunk Victorian world to life.
  • High replay value with many routes and outcomes, encouraging experimentation and long-term play.
  • No network dependency and strong value for money, making it great for travel and offline play.
Cons
  • UI and HUD elements (HP indicator and corner info) frequently get cut off on newer devices, making crucial information unreadable.
  • Startup and compatibility issues on some devices (crashes or getting stuck at the title screen) prevent play on certain hardware.
  • Perceived as more interactive fiction than a traditional game, with some players feeling the format doesn’t justify the price.

Won’t go past the title screen on my M2 iPad.

I write this hoping the designers at Inkle see it. This game used to be awesome but is now unplayable on iphone 16. Fogg has a health bar in the bottom right of the screen, the numbers are cut off and cannot be read. This is bad because it is a major game mechanic to maintain his health to determine routes. Play it on a different platform if you can.
