IMconnected

IMconnected by IMDA Singapore. IMconnected aims to engage citizens through voluntary crowdsourcing to improve the quality of experience for mobile broadband users. The app gathers usage experience from users’ mobile phones, such as broadband speed, latency and coverage on mobile cellular networks such as 4G and 5G, as well as on Wi-Fi networks. This will allow IMDA to have a better understanding of mobile broadband performance and take measures to improve consumers’ usage experience. IMconnected, designed to run in the background of a mobile phone, will collect and send the information in anonymised form back to IMDA. The information will form various sets of data points that can be used to assess the mobile network operators’ performance collectively. The following parameters are periodically collected by this application in the background solely for the purposes stated above: • Data-Performance statistics such as Session throughput, latency, Packet loss per session and Data volume utilised • Voice-Performance statistics such as experienced network coverage • Device Identifiers such as manufacturer and model, operating system and location information See more: https://youtu.be/qzbzVy5WYu0 When running in the background, no more than 3 MB of data per month will be used, excluding the use of speed test function. Battery drain would also be minimal (less than 3% of a phone’s power).
