User Reviews

Near Lock’s core idea—proximity auto-lock/unlock—receives mixed reviews. A strong recurring drawback is unreliable proximity behavior, with many reporting it fails to lock or unlock automatically. A pervasive theme is abandonment—no updates for years, limited support, and compatibility problems with Sonoma, M1/M2 Macs, and current iOS. Bluetooth frequently drops, forcing restarts or re-pairing. Pro features and refunds are widely criticized. Despite occasional praise for manual control and quick setup, the overall sentiment is that the app is not reliable or maintained.
Pros
  • Manual lock/unlock via the Near Lock app generally works.
  • The proximity-based lock/unlock concept is valued as the app's core feature when it functions.
  • Some users report quick initial connectivity/setup with the app.
Cons
  • Proximity-based auto-lock/unlock is unreliable or non-functional for many users.
  • The app appears abandoned and not updated for years, with little or no developer support.
  • Bluetooth connectivity frequently drops, requiring restarts or re-pairing.
  • Compatibility issues with newer macOS versions (e.g., Sonoma) and Apple hardware (M1/M2)
  • Pro features/purchasing issues and lack of refunds or support

Maybe I’m doing something wrong, I can lock and unlock my Mac from my iPhone manually but doesn’t work automatically when I walk away.

iPhone 15 PRO, iWatch Ultra 2 and Macbook Pro MAX M2. Did not connect ANT of these devices together. Vry disappointing. Not worth the frustration of fixing Apples bugs for them!
