Features & Capabilities

Congenital heart defects can be difficult to visualize and explain. Heartpedia, created by Cincinnati Children's Hospital, allows you to interact with 3D models of pediatric heart anomalies and defects. Healthcare providers may use these anatomically-correct models as visual learning tools to help educate patients and families on specific defects and repairs. Heartpedia may also be helpful to patients and families who want to learn more on their own or to share the details of a defect with concerned friends and family. Cincinnati Children’s believes that supplying the right information and tools ultimately results in the highest level of care and the best outcomes.

User Reviews

Reviewers consistently praise Heartpedia as an easy-to-use, highly visual educational tool for understanding congenital heart defects. The interactive visuals—showing defects, normal hearts, and repairs—are repeatedly highlighted as a key benefit and a valuable resource for patients, families, and clinicians. However, multiple users report serious downsides in updates: image visibility/quality has deteriorated, the quick toggle and comparison features have become cumbersome or removed, and there is demand for more defect coverage.
Pros
  • Easy to use and understand for common CHD lesions.
  • Interactive visuals and animations allow easy comparison between defects, normal hearts, and repairs.
  • Valuable educational resource used by clinicians, educators, and families.
  • Strong visual explanations that help patients and families grasp heart problems.
Cons
  • Image visibility and image quality degrade in the latest update, making it hard to view the heart images.
  • Loss or reduction of quick toggle/visual comparison between defects, repairs, and the normal heart.
  • Not enough defect coverage; missing many defects and desire for more conditions to be included.

The previous version was so much better and provided more in depth information. The pictures were also better! Can we get the previous version back?

The whole reason I had this app was for a quick visual reference. Now I can’t see any images in the new version

Would love access to the previous version when you could quickly toggle between defects, repairs, and normal heart images, which allowed for easy, beautiful comparisons and a better understanding of each condition. The most recent update is cumbersome and disappointing. The magic this app once offered to visual learners was lost with the update. Please bring back the previous version - it was such a wonderful resource.
