It helps you learn Japanese naturally by using the words you encounter in daily life—menus, signs, manga, emails, books, and more. The dictionary packs over 200,000 words, 205,000 example sentences, and 6,000 kanji, with notes and audio pronunciations in the Pro version.

Pro features include Photo Lookup (OCR) powered by Google Cloud Vision, Clippings with furigana or romaji, automatically generated flashcards, and an adjustable reading experience (horizontal or vertical). It also offers search across English, Japanese, and romaji, kanji by radicals and strokes, and a Safari extension to learn on webpages. Nihongo credits JMDict and Tatoeba for data.

This dictionary does it all. Massive word catalogue, stroke order, SR flash cards, pronunciation, example sentences, the list goes on. This has been my go to for years, and though I’ve tried others, I always returned to this one. Easily five stars.
