Features & Capabilities

LiveFrame turns any device into a dynamic digital photo frame by displaying photos from iCloud, Google Photos, Facebook, Instagram, Dropbox, Flickr, and more. Choose to display all photos, specific albums, or the latest Day, Week, Month, or Year collections, and enjoy both landscape and portrait orientations.

Enhance slideshows with adjustable duration, filters, and transitions; show time/date and current weather during playback; filter Instagram by hashtag; enable daily auto-shutdown or sleep/wake; and use AirPlay to turn a TV into a large photo frame. It supports captions, auto-checks for new photos on restart, and keeps playback running even when charging.

User Reviews

LiveFrame is praised for turning old iPads into digital photo frames and for solid iCloud Shared Albums support with auto-refresh. However, recurring issues include Google Photos API changes causing 403 errors, lack of support for OneDrive/Network Folders, reliability problems and upgrade prompts, a shuffle bug, and absence of Live Photos/Videos support. Overall, it works well for repurposing older devices when Google integration isn’t the source, but stability and cross-source compatibility remain the main concerns.
Pros
  • Turns an old iPad into a functional digital photo frame.
  • Strong support for iCloud Photos/shared albums with automatic refresh.
  • Slideshow customization options (display time, transitions, weather/date overlays, fit-to-frame).
  • Lightweight and runs well on older devices with low memory usage.
  • Good long-term compatibility with legacy hardware and positive developer support.
Cons
  • Google Photos integration frequently breaks due to API changes (403/insufficient scopes) and login/auth issues, with poor or slow support.
  • No support for OneDrive or Network Folders as photo sources.
  • Reliability problems: frequent errors, crashes, or the app stopping after a few photos, plus disruptive upgrade prompts.
  • Shuffle does not actually shuffle: it often starts from the first photo instead of randomizing.
  • Live Photos or videos are not supported (and some images can appear blurry at max resolution).

This is nice when it works, but I often have to re-log into social media accounts and lately I can’t get it to log in at all. Although I set it in shuffle mode, I often see the same 50ish photos every day

Could not get it to work with Google photos. Could not get a response from support. I think Google has removed ability, app should say that. I started getting it to work with photos on iPad, but didn’t understand how it was selecting photos. Timed out and asked for payment, before I figured it out (they gave me about 5 minutes)
