◆ An encyclopedia you explore, not a list you scroll

Dog's Family is not a list of breeds. A single large illustrated map, with all 139 of them drawn into it, is the app itself. Pinch to zoom in, drag to look around, tap the one that catches your eye. It brings back the pleasure of wandering through a paper encyclopedia.

◆ What you can do

• Explore the illustrated map Pinch and drag your way across a huge map. Breed name labels can be turned on and off at any time from the button at the bottom left.

• Tap to learn more Size, origin, history, the job the breed was bred for, height, weight and life span, plus its characteristics and a bit of trivia, all laid out to be read.

• Search by name If you already know the breed, look it up by name. Leave the box empty and you can simply browse the full list of all 139 breeds.

• See photos, keep your favorites Photos of the breed are pulled from Flickr. They keep their original proportions in the grid, and a tap opens them full screen. Save the ones you like.

• Find videos Search YouTube for videos of the breed - newest, top rated, or most viewed.

• Share Send a breed's details along with a piece of the map cropped around it.

Every screen has been rebuilt for modern iOS. The map and the photos now follow your finger directly, and the app runs lighter. Dark mode included.

◆ Works offline

The map and the breed information are bundled with the app, so it works as an encyclopedia without a connection. The network is used only when looking for photos and videos.

• This app is free and supported by ads.
• Photos and videos come straight from keyword searches, so unrelated results can appear.
