User Reviews

The Epson DocumentScan iOS app is widely criticized for unreliability and poor usability that undermine a capable scanner. The most recurring issues are flaky Wi‑Fi connectivity and the need to disable cellular data to scan; missing core features like OCR, direct Files app saving, and full DPI control; a strict 100-page per file limit; and a sluggish, outdated interface with little guidance. Together these themes suggest the app remains difficult to use across recent iOS devices and versions, detracting from the scanner’s potential value.
Pros
Cons
  • Frequent Wi-Fi connectivity problems between iOS devices and the ES-300W scanner, with devices often not finding the scanner or failing to maintain a connection.
  • You often must disable cellular data (and sometimes VPN/privacy settings) on the iPhone/iPad to get scanning to work, a workaround repeatedly mentioned across reviews.
  • The iOS app lacks essential features expected by users, such as OCR support, direct saving to the Files app (instead of per-scan saves), and full DPI control (max 300 DPI instead of the scanner's capability).
  • File handling is limited by a 100-page-per-file cap, forcing users to create multiple files for larger scans.
  • Overall usability is poor: outdated, slow interface, and scarce/unclear troubleshooting guidance leading to repeated setups and instability.

Agree with other reviewers. This app is not useful. It is lacking several key features. I want to be able to save directly to the files app (vs saving each scan individually), I want to be able to use the full DPI settings on my scanner (FF-680W can do 600 DPI, this maxes out at 300), and I want the features from the desktop app like automatic double side detection, searchable PDFs, etc. Wish epson took this more seriously.
