User Reviews

Extreme 500 is praised for its authentic, nostalgic bidding experience and usefulness for practicing bidding and scoring, with features like 3‑handed Cutthroat. However, the app suffers from persistent issues: unreliable bidding/misère AI, biased card dealing, lack of real online play, numerous bugs affecting scoring and achievements, and several UI/feature gaps. Overall, players enjoy the core gameplay but want significant AI stability, fairness, and multiplayer improvements.
Pros
  • Enjoyable, nostalgic 500 bid gameplay that players report as great for nightly play.
  • Good for practice and learning bidding and scoring.
  • Includes modes like 3‑handed Cutthroat and solid scoring options.
  • Strong AI provides a challenging opponent and feels more realistic than some other apps.
  • Faithful to the real game and loved as a learning/nostalgic tool.
Cons
  • Bidding AI and misère logic is unreliable and often blocks win opportunities, with misère bids behaving oddly.
  • Card dealing/unfair randomness: hands often seem biased in favor of the opponents or the house.
  • No real online play: the app predominantly uses computer opponents on both sides, limiting multiplayer appeal.
  • Bugs and glitches affect core features (scoring, achievements, navigation) and undermine stability.
  • UI/UX gaps and missing features (pre-bid card rearrangement, ordering from kitty, multiple 500 types, unclear rating/achievements).

Could never make a bid!

Great game. I play it just about every night. One thing I can’t figure out - what do the ratings mean? I just came back from -490 to win, and got an “S”? What does that stand for? Or I’ll take 10 tricks (“slam”), then win a misare for 500 points in 2 hands and get a “B”?… 😅

Game is okay playing partners for an app anyway. Way too may unbidable hands. It’s like the randomization that substitutes for a shuffle is too good. Played thousands of games over the last 60 years and I’ve never had a game where ten hands delt with no biddable cards. This letter grade business incredibly annoying and 100% unnecessary. For a game I had to pay for…it could be a lot better.
