User Reviews

User reviews largely express frustration with Allrecipes Magazine replacing the former Allrecipes app. The main pain points are data loss (years of saved recipes and notes disappearing), login issues, and the app's transition to a paid magazine format rather than a recipe app. Users report the app cannot open, is ad-heavy, and difficult to use, with poor or generic developer responses. Many long-time users say they would have paid for a functional evolution of the original app and miss features like offline access and easy search. Some still rely on the website or workaround to save recipes.
Pros
  • The old Allrecipes app was indispensable for saving and quickly accessing recipes in the kitchen.
  • Users valued having saved recipes (favorites) accessible on mobile to cook from.
  • Many reviewers indicated they would have paid for a functional app; shows perceived value.
  • Nostalgia for Chef John and the trusted recipe content from the old app.
Cons
  • Loss of saved recipes/data; years of saved recipes and notes disappearing.
  • The new magazine format/app is seen as a downgrade, a paid subscription, not a recipe app.
  • App reliability issues: cannot open, cannot locate in App Store, login problems, or it stopped working.
  • Ad-heavy, cluttered interface that interferes with searching, viewing, or printing recipes.
  • Perceived poor customer support responses and lack of action from developers.
Recent reviews
I used Allrecipes regularly while my kids were growing up. I still have plenty of printed out recipes. But now with this new “app”, I can’t even get it to open. Very disappointed in this, and I will treasure the recipes that I printed out. And seriously, go back to the old format!!

Where is it! It’s not even an app. Loved the old way

This app is an atrocity. What’s worse is all the heartfelt reviews of lost recipes and the follow up developer responses. Every response is the same generic AI bot saying how sorry they are and how much they appreciate the feedback. Hysterical incompetence. Allrecipes should be taught in business schools as an example of alienating their customers and losing business. Pathetic.
