User Reviews

HotSpot Parking is praised by some for refunds on unused time and overall ease, plus wallet-based convenience. However, many reviews emphasize a poor user experience: mandatory $10 wallet top-ups with surcharges, slow/buggy performance, a tedious sign-up process, and inconsistent payment options across locations. Additional concerns include license-plate handling and occasional required coins. Overall, the app shows intermittent value in certain cities but suffers from cash-flow friction, usability problems, and reliability issues across locations.
Pros
  • Refunds for unused parking time.
  • Generally easy and intuitive to use.
  • Wallet-based payments are convenient (one-time credit card setup and fast wallet top-ups).
Cons
  • Wallet minimum top-up of $10 and associated surcharges/fees, making per-session payments feel like a money grab.
  • Slow, buggy performance with long API responses and a non-intuitive UX.
  • Cumbersome sign-up flow (email + mobile number, manual CC entry, no autofill) and frequent redirects to web-based processes.
  • Inconsistent acceptance of payment methods at various locations (some places prefer coins or kiosks; some card payments/surcharges are not available).
  • License-plate management issues (only active plate visible, risk of tickets if multiple plates aren’t visible).

App keeps crashing every time I try to enter basic info. This is definitely not working.

Because it doesn’t work but lets me log in with google, I’m wondering if it’s skimming passwords. After trying to use this app, I got a Google security alert saying someone tried to log into my account

Visited a tourist town and the parking meters use Hotspot. First, the only way to pay is to _download_ the app, not pay in a website. So I stand there and download the app. Second, I’m forced to create an account. I stand there coming up with a password for the account. Third, I have to validate my email before I can do anything. Fourth, I have to add my vehicle in the app. It’s a rental - I don’t remember the license plate, and what’s more, I’m paying at a _specific_ parking meter so you shouldn’t need the vehicle details. Fifth, I have to add a payment method to my account, can’t just pay the one time. Sixth, I have to find the specific parking meter in the app where I have to navigate lists of cities and locations their app supports just to find this one meter I want to pay for. Finally after 10-15 mins I can make the $1 payment for the damn parking meter. Will probably (hopefully) never use this damn app again. I would have happily paid $5 in a garage if they allowed me to tap my credit card and be on my way. To the developers - understand your use case. Your job is to enable a quick parking meter payment. A QR code that opens a website to pay for the _specific_ parking meter, quickly pay with Apple Pay without having to enter any of my information and I’d be done in 10 seconds. Everything else I had to do is for your benefit so you can have your database of users. You’re not freaking Facebook - you’re a parking meter payment system.
