Co-founded by Mark Cuban, CYBER DUST emphasizes safety, trust, and control over your conversations.

Key features include unsend messages, screenshot detection with alerts, and automatic erasure of chat history after 24 hours. Conversations are heavily encrypted and not accessible by anyone, not even Dust, and you can erase messages on the recipient’s device in real time. User Reviews

Users praise Dust for its privacy-first approach (auto-delete, perceived safety) and its simplicity, plus an ad-free experience. However, frequent complaints center on missing features and reliability: limited media sharing, inconsistent notifications, an outdated UI, slow support, and login/region issues after updates. Overall, Dust is valued for safety but hampered by usability, feature gaps, and support problems.
Pros
  • Privacy-focused design with auto-delete messages after 24 hours, enhancing perceived security.
  • Simple and easy-to-use for private conversations.
  • Perceived safety and reliability compared to basic messaging apps.
  • Ad-free experience with no intrusive ads or data collection.
Cons
  • Media sharing is limited or broken (cannot send pictures/videos), with updates occasionally exacerbating this limitation.
  • Notifications are unreliable or missing (no alerts for messages or pending chats).
  • Outdated UI and lack of modern features (ugly/interface not kept up to date).
  • Poor or unresponsive customer support (slow to respond to issues).
  • Login/region-related access issues after updates (region blocks or sign-in failures).

I found this app to be a better option than Signal because the messages automatically disappear in 24 hours you don't need to use your name and it's very simple to use.

I’ve used this app for years. And while it’s always had a pretty ugly interface and not great UI and it hasn’t kept up with modern functionality or seemed to even make an attempt at that, I did like that I trusted it and it felt secure. What seems to show an almost willful abhorrence or unfathomable negligence for users is the fact they have weirdly capped the message length at a very short amount. Worse, is that if you are doing voice dictation, it allows you to keep talking and shows the words that you’re typing and it seems like everything is fine and then it’s not until you stop talking and go to hit send that it deletes however much of your message is over and above the maximum. If you were trying to generate customer anger and rage clicks and taps and just create an overall frustrating experience, this would be one of the top ways that I could imagine. It’s enough for me to stop using the app after years of use. I would assume that it had been abandoned from a development standpoint, and perhaps Apple had made a change that they simply hadn’t kept up with, but I’m seeing an update from a month ago. I’m at a loss on this.
