To most people, pearls are considered precious gems, and are among the most popular jewels in the world. It should not be surprising that physicians consider a priceless bit of knowledge about their specialty a "pearl". For the diagnostic radiologist, a pearl may be the formerly elusive insight or fact that paves the way for a correct diagnosis or deeper understanding of a radiologic image. A traditional component of radiology education, pearls are considered on a par with elements such as the teaching file or lecture series.
