End-to-end encrypted chat with the people you actually know. Friends are added in person or by invite link; the server only ever holds ciphertext.

ProjectY is a private messenger for people who already know each other.

• End-to-end encrypted: every message is encrypted before it leaves the phone; the server relays ciphertext it cannot read. • Direct when nearby: two phones close to each other talk over Bluetooth and peer-to-peer Wi-Fi, through no server at all. • No sign-up: no phone number, no account. Your identity is a key pair that lives on your phone. • Verified in person: friends are added by comparing safety codes face to face, or remotely with an invite code. • Messages delete themselves: set a retention time per chat, from burn-after-reading to 9 hours. • Vault: a separately encrypted space for pictures, videos and files you want to keep. • Groups, voice messages, pictures, videos, files, moods and a bulletin board. • Recovery Kit: a password-protected file that brings your identity and friends back if the phone is lost.

ProjectY has no ads, never reads your address book and builds no profile of you.
