Braillito Maps

A map built by the people who need to know whether there is a ramp, tactile paving or a braille menu. Add a place and spare somebody else the trip.

Braillito Maps is a community map of places that are actually accessible.

Apple Maps and Google Maps can tell you where a café is. They can't tell you whether it has a ramp at the door, tactile paving on the way in, or a menu in braille. That information doesn't arrive by satellite — it comes from the people who need it.

HOW IT WORKS Add a place with its name, address and a photo, then answer six questions about what it actually has:

• Ramp • Wide doorway • Adapted restroom • Tactile paving • Braille signage • Audible signals

Every place gets a score out of six, shown as a number and a colour band — never colour on its own. A screen reader reads it out as "Café Rivas, accessibility 4 out of 6".

BUILT TO BE USED WITH VOICEOVER The list is not a fallback for the map: it is the accessible view. A map is close to unusable with a screen reader, because pins have no order and nothing to focus. Here every place is a row, in order, with a label that says what it is.

WHY IT'S WORTH ADDING A PLACE Nobody should have to travel across the city to find out there are three steps at the entrance. Every place you add spares somebody else that trip.
