Òrain: Songbook and Chords

Òrain is a song library for singers.

The words, the chords sitting above the syllable they land on, and everything that goes with a song — kept on your phone, working with no signal at all. Because the places people sing are often the places without one.

WHAT IT DOES

• Chords above the words, wrapping properly on any size of screen • Transpose to any key — tap a chord, choose what you want instead, and every other chord moves with it. It saves as a new version, so the original is still there • Several versions of a song at once: a different key, a different set of words, someone else's arrangement. Name them, delete them, choose which one opens by default • Auto-scroll at a speed you set, so your hands stay on the instrument • Reveal mode, a line at a time, for learning words • Record yourself singing straight into a song, and play it back against the words • Bring in recordings, videos and PDFs you already have • Paste a link to YouTube, Apple Music or anywhere else — it plays in the song page rather than throwing you out to another app • Collections for songbooks, tags for anything else, and filters that answer real questions: what have I not learned yet, what has no recording, what is in Gàidhlig • One tap between the Gàidhlig and the English of a song that has both, and back again • Search the titles and the words • Export the whole library to a file and bring it in on another device

ON ALL YOUR DEVICES

Your library syncs through your own iCloud account, so the same songs, versions, collections and tags are on your iPhone, your iPad and your Mac, and your recordings travel with them. There is no account to make and nothing comes to us. If you would rather keep everything on one device, sync can be turned off.

NOTHING IS COLLECTED rewritten so it's still the same promise, just an accurate one:

No account, no sign-in, no analytics, no advertising, no subscription. Òrain has no server of its own. With sync on, your library goes to your own private iCloud account, which we cannot read, and nowhere else. With sync off it does not leave the device at all.

GÀIDHLIG, SCOTS AND ENGLISH

Songs are marked by language and sorted properly, so accents do not throw the alphabet out — Àrd and Aird land where they should. A singing translation is another version of the same song rather than a second entry, so the Gaelic and the English sit together where they belong.

IT ARRIVES WITH SOMETHING IN IT

Eight traditional songs, all out of copyright, so there is something to open on the first day — Fear a' Bhàta, Ailein Duinn, Chì mi na Mòr-Bheanna, Griogal Cridhe, Loch Lomond, The Skye Boat Song, Auld Lang Syne and The Parting Glass. Chì mi na Mòr-Bheanna arrives with both its Gàidhlig words and an English translation, so the language switch has something to switch between on the first day. Delete them whenever you like; they will not come back.
