Import a text file, a Markdown file or a PDF, then set it the way your eyes want it: the typeface, how big it is, how much air sits between the words, how wide the column runs, and what colour the page is. Press play and hear it read aloud, with each word highlighted as it is spoken.

FOUR TYPEFACES, AND AN HONEST WORD ABOUT THEM

Dyslexify includes OpenDyslexic, Atkinson Hyperlegible, Arial and the system typeface, in one menu, with a sample so you can see the letters that usually cause trouble — b and d, p and q, 0 and O, 1 and l and I.

Four rather than one, on purpose. Research on dyslexia-specific typefaces is genuinely mixed: some studies find readers prefer them, others find no measurable difference in speed or accuracy against a plain face like Arial. Preference varies from person to person, and the only test that matters is your own reading. So Dyslexify hands you the choice instead of making it for you.

THE CONTROLS THAT DO THE HEAVY LIFTING

Typeface gets the attention. These often matter more:

• Size — bigger than you think you need is usually right.
• Word spacing — more air between words, on its own control.
• Letter spacing — a little goes a long way.
• Line spacing — room to find the next line without losing your place.
• Line width — a short column is easier to track than a wide one.
• Page colour — paper, cream, sepia, slate, night, or high contrast. Your choice stays put; it does not flip when the sun goes down.

Four presets to start from — Comfort, Focus, Large Print and Night — and every one of them leaves your typeface alone.

READ ALOUD

Any document can be spoken, at the speed you choose, in any voice installed on your device. The word being read is highlighted on the page as you follow along. Seeing and hearing the same word at the same time helps a lot of readers more than any single typeface does.
