Your iPhone is already counting your steps. Lockstep puts the number on a leaderboard and lets someone beat you.

HOW IT WORKS

• Sign in with Apple, pick a username, connect Health.
• Start a competition: a week, a month, a custom range, a head-to-head, or a race to a step target.
• Send the link. Whoever opens it is one tap away from joining.
• Steps sync in the background. The leaderboard updates itself.
• See what it takes: how far you are from the next place and from first, and how many steps a day would close the gap.
• Leave a note on your row - it disappears after 24 hours. Take a rest day and say so.

FIVE WAYS TO RUN A COMPETITION

• Weekly — Monday to Sunday. Most steps win.
• Monthly — a calendar month. Most steps win.
• Custom range — any two dates you choose.
• Head-to-head — exactly two people, shown as a duel.
• Race to target — first to reach a step target wins.

IT READS ONE THING Lockstep asks Apple Health for permission to read your daily step total, and nothing else. Not routes, not locations, not workouts, not heart rate, not the time of day you walked. It requests no permission to write at all, so it cannot add, change, or remove anything in Health. The number in Lockstep matches the number in the Health app because it is the same number — counted once, after Health removes the double-counting between your iPhone and any watch or ring.

WHAT IT DOES NOT DO

• No ads, no tracking, no analytics, and no third-party SDKs.
• Nothing sold to anybody.
• No public profiles and no feed. Your steps are seen by the friends you add and the people in your competitions — nobody else.
• Blocking somebody hides each of you from the other straight away. In a competition you already share, you both still count, so rankings mean the same thing to everyone.

WHEN A DAY IS WRONG Type it in by hand. Manual entries are marked as manual, and everyone in the competition can see which is which. The leaderboard is only worth having if it is honest.

DELETING YOUR ACCOUNT Profile → Delete account. Your steps, notes, and photo are deleted, and your name and picture are removed from everything. Competitions you already finished keep their results, and you'll be shown as a former member.
