THE ROUND, NOT THE DAY A round in Japan runs about 5.5 hours from tee time. KIMEDOKI scores just that window and splits it into warm-up, front nine, lunch and back nine, so you can see when the back nine turns rough.

CANCELLATION FEES, SIDE BY SIDE Fees typically step up at 7 days, 3 days, the day before and the day of. KIMEDOKI shows what cancelling costs now and when the next step hits. While it is still free to cancel, the verdict is "no need to decide yet"; when a step is close, it is "today is the deadline".

FORECAST UNCERTAINTY, SHOWN Forecasts move. The same round is scored with four models (JMA, ECMWF, GFS, ICON) and their spread is shown as confidence. Each time you open a round, its score is logged so you can see the trend: "72 three days ago, 48 yesterday, 51 today".

WHAT MATTERS ON THE COURSE

• Comfort: rain intensity and duration, temperature
• Difficulty: mean wind and direction, gusts, wind shifts
• Safety: lightning, heat stress (WBGT), strong wind, visibility Snow, frost, storms and fog are flagged separately as possible course closures.

WIND IN CLUBS 5 m/s costs roughly 15 yards; 10 m/s costs 30-40. The app converts the headwind into "how many clubs up".

1,877 COURSES, ELEVATION-CORRECTED Mountain courses are colder in the morning than the valley forecast suggests. Every course is corrected to its own elevation.
