Feeling stuck? StepOne hands you one tiny thing to do right now — doodle, stretch, make your bed. Finish it, and the distance adds up. Free, open source, no tracking.
Some days the to-do list is the problem. StepOne throws it out and gives you one small thing instead.
Open the app and you get a single Trip: doodle for two minutes, stretch your arms, make your bed, wash one dish. Swipe up to complete it, swipe down to skip it, swipe sideways to see another. That's the whole app. Every Trip is small enough to finish in a minute or two, because finishing something is the point.
HOW IT WORKS
• One Trip at a time, from nearly 300 hand-written ideas
• Swipe up to complete, down to discard, left and right to browse
• Pick the Trip Types you want to see more of: Creativity, Physical, Housework, Hygiene, Study, Hobby, and Social
• Change your mind whenever — categories and discarded Trips are always editable
YOUR JOURNEY
Every completed Trip adds distance to Your Journey. Distance here is a metaphor, not a pedometer — it's simply a way of watching small efforts add up into something you can see.
Along the way you unlock 51 milestones borrowed from the real world, from The Local Block (0.5 km) and The Central Park Loop (3.1 km) all the way out to The Great Wall Arc and The Nomad's Horizon. They're grouped into four phases — The Local Footsteps, The City Crossings, The Geographic Wonders, and The Epic Expeditions — so there's always a next horizon.
GENTLE BY DESIGN
• Optional morning or evening reminders, scheduled on your device
• No streaks to break, no punishment for a day off
• No pedometer, no HealthKit, no location tracking
USE IT YOUR WAY
Start as a guest and everything stays on your device. Create an account — email, Sign in with Apple, or Google — and your Trip Types, distance, and milestones sync across devices and survive a reinstall. You can register later without losing the progress you already made, and delete your account and all of its data from Settings at any time.
Available in English, Spanish, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, French, German, Japanese, and Korean.
FREE AND OPEN SOURCE
StepOne is completely free. No ads, no subscriptions, no in-app purchases. The entire source code is public under the MIT License, so you can read exactly how it works and check our privacy claims yourself.
StepOne was built by one developer who needed it. It came out of a therapist's advice during a stretch of low motivation: start with something so small it's almost silly, and let it build from there.
StepOne is a motivation and self-care tool, not a medical device, and is not a substitute for professional care.
